The Quentel from Schuyler Bibles

This is a beautiful premium Bible. Premium Bibles are made to last a lifetime and consist of the finest leather, paper, binding, stitching, and font styles. They cost a bit more but are worth every penny.

The Quentel is Schuyler’s flagship Bible style and is offered in a variety of translations (ESV, NASB, NIV, NLT, CSB, and NKJV). Other styles include the Canterbury, Treveris (which I reviewed earlier), and the Stridon.

The Quentel, in addition to the standard size, is also available in a handy personal size and a wide margin version. As a premium Bible, there are several leather and color choices. Mine is the full yapp (the extra leather that wraps around the Bible to protect the gilt edges) in Marbled Merlot Calfskin in the NKJV.

The color justly earns its name, like lifting a glass of merlot towards the sky, allowing the sun to illuminate its contents, so too as I hold this Bible in my hands, I am amazed by the rich and captivating color that adorns its cover. The deep, velvety shade of burgundy seems to have a life of its own, transforming with the changing light. It’s as if the color dances, revealing different undertones and nuances.

But it is not only the external beauty that captivates me, it is the symbolism behind this color that adds a deeper meaning to this exquisite Bible. The rich, brownish burgundy represents strength, stability, and earthiness. It carries a sense of reverence and solemnity, like the ancient leather-bound tomes found in old libraries.

When opened, it encompasses your hand like a warm leather jacket of someone you love. The feeling of the pages between your fingers, the scent of leather and paper, it all adds to the pleasure of reading. And then there’s the print – inviting and easy to read. The carefully chosen 11 point font size and style make it a delight for the eyes, allowing you to immerse yourself completely in the words on the page. Likewise, the Smyth-Swen stitching allows it to lay flat wherever opened. And the raised spine ribs provide security to the binding.

As with all Schuyler Bibles, it has the Jerusalem Cross on the cover. The Jerusalem Cross, also known as the Crusader’s Cross or the Five-Fold Cross, is a symbol with historical and spiritual significance. It is composed of a large central cross representing Christ, surrounded by four smaller crosses symbolizing the four evangelists – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

In addition to its symbolic significance, the Jerusalem Cross can also inspire contemplation and reflection on the teachings of the Bible. As one opens the Schuyler Bible adorned with this distinctive symbol, they are met with the timeless words and stories that have shaped the lives of countless believers throughout history.

Moreover, the Jerusalem Cross represents unity and the interconnectedness of different aspects of faith. Just as the smaller crosses are linked to the central cross in the symbol, it reminds us of the harmony and collaboration that can be found within the Christian community. It serves as a testament to the belief that despite our individual interpretations and perspectives, we are all part of a larger body of believers who share a common faith in Christ.
