A Premium Bible that offers so much more
For some time now I have heard of Humble Lamb Bibles, but only recently had the pleasure of owning one. Seeing a Bible online is one thing, but you only really can tell the quality of a Bible when you open and hold it. So I was eagerly awaiting receiving the King James Version Lion (Refresh). It is, in a word, amazing.
Here are seven reasons why you should consider a Bible from Humble Lamb.
1). Craftsmanship
The attention to detail in the cover design, the quality of the paper, and the readability of the text truly exceeded my expectations. Holding this Bible in my hands, I can feel the care and workmanship that went into its creation.
The leather cover (Meridian Goatskin with Goatskin liner) is not only beautiful but durable, giving me confidence that it will last for years to come. It is thick enough to endure, and yet flexible in that it lays open when placed on a desk. The colors offered are Olive Slate with gray lining (which is the one I have), Storm Gray with dark blue lining, Rose Gold with black lining, Fox Orange with black lining, Lunar Yellow with black lining, and Sahara Blue with tan brown lining (you can see them all here and are the ones available in the KJV Lion).

The Bibles are edge-lined and handcrafted stitching. The binding is Smyth-sewn, assuring that it stays open where you are reading. It comes with three ribbons to highlight the various linings or accent the guilting. And, like the leather, the ribbons are of high quality (10mm double satin). There is a concordance at the end, as well as beautiful maps. This Bible also has the original To The Reader which appeared in the 1611 edition of the KJV setting forth the reason for the translation. Even the two-piece box is of luxurious. Their Bibles come with a Lifetime Guarantee.

2). Font and Blue Lettering

The font size is perfect for this, making it easy to read without straining my eyes. This edition has the 11-point Milo typeface and is line-matched to prevent ghosting (show through) from the other side of the page. Plus, the paper is 36 gsm, which means it is thick enough to take notes if you so desire.

The drop caps are in blue, as are the paragraph markers. Likewise, the words of Christ are in the same blue ink which is easier on the eyes than bright red-lettered editions.
3). Fore-edge Gilt or colored under gold art-gilt

Each color selection comes with one of three choices (at least in the KJV Lion refresh). The gilt is the gold you see on the edge of the Bible paper. Depending on the color selection, the colored underlining differs. For example, in my Olive Slate it is green under gold art-gilt, so when closed the edging appears as gold, but when open and the pages are tapered the edging appears green. However, there are two other choices which makes Humble Lamb stand apart from other publishers. You can choose the fore-edge gilt instead. Here you can have either a drawing of a lion (hence its name), or of a roaring lion stepping on the head of the serpent. The imagery is self-explanatory and is the option which I chose. For me, it is a constant reminder that Christ is the victor.
4). Illustrations from Gustave Doré

I’m a big fan of pen and ink prints as well as woodcut illustrations. The intricate details and expressive lines drawings have always captivated me. One of my favorite things about Humble Lamb is the inclusion of 66 stunning illustrations from the renowned artist Gustave Doré (1832-1883). He was well-known for his wood-engravings illustrating classic literature, especially those for the Vulgate Bible and Dante’s Divine Comedy. Doré’s masterful use of art brings scenes to life with a unique blend of shading, texture, and depth. Each illustration in this collection tells a rich and captivating story, showcasing Doré’s exceptional talent and artistry. The fine lines and cross-hatching techniques create a remarkable visual experience, drawing the viewer into the intricate world depicted on the page. These prints are not only visually striking but also hold a timeless quality that makes them a cherished addition to any art lover’s collection. The inclusion of these illustrations sprinkled throughout the pages of scripture enhances the reading experience and seems to connect us with the world of yesterday.

5). Cross references and word meaning
The cross references are at the bottom of the pages, and if there are two chapters on a page it divides the cross references accordingly. Each reference at the bottom are highlighted in the same blue as the drop caps, which makes it very easy to find. The KJV Lion has the added feature in that it supplies at the bottom of each page the meaning of archaic words that are often found in the KJV. The definitions are based on how the words were understood and used in 1611, bringing to life the beauty of the Authorized King James Version and are as close as your fingertips.
6). Translations
While the Lion is Humble Lamb’s KJV edition, they also publish the NKJV which they call the Shepherd, as well as the NASB which they call HIStory. As with the Lion, they are available with their own special fore-edge gilt (you can view them by going here).
However, something new is coming. Humble Lamb will soon be publishing the NLT which they call SonRise. As with the Shepherd and HIStory, the SonRise will have its own fore-edge gilt and special features.
All six of these reasons help to make the Bibles from Humble Lamb not only premium Bibles to love and cherish, but stand alone works of art. Each Bible is meticulously crafted with high-quality materials, ensuring durability and elegance. The intricate designs and attention to detail make these Bibles a testament to exquisite craftsmanship, further enhancing their appeal. The profound significance of the scriptures combined with the unparalleled artistry imbues these Bibles with a deep sense of reverence and beauty, elevating them beyond mere books to be treasured for generations to come.
However, there is an additional reason to make Humble Lamb your next Bible . . .
7). They give to others
While these Bibles make excellent gifts for yourself or a loved one, by purchasing a Humble Lamb Bible you help spread God’s word and care.
My Lion came with this note, which is first listed after the copyright page. It reads:
Thank you for making a difference.
For every Bible purchased, Humble Lamb will provide Bibles, food, and humanitarian assistance to those in need.
I have not seen something like this before. What a blessing to know when you purchase a Bible from Humble Lamb that someone who does not have a copy of God’s word will receive one from them, as well as doing the work of a disciple and offering food and care for those in need. You can learn more about this by visiting their website and mission here.
Humble Lamb also offers a 10% discount off of your first order.
For all of these reasons, I highly recommend this Bible publisher and pray for God’s blessings as they not only publish The Word of God (which is on the side of all their Bibles as in the opening photo), but proclaim the Living Word to a world which truly needs Christ and His word.
