“He has put eternity into man’s heart.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11

All around the world, people believe in God.

They live in different countries.
They speak different languages.
They have different traditions.

Yet throughout history, people have believed there is something more than this world.

Sometimes Bible Explorers stop and ask an amazing question.

Why do people everywhere believe in God?

This belief did not start in one place.

It appeared all over the world.

Long before people traveled easily, tribes and nations believed there was a Creator.

They believed life had meaning.

They believed there was something greater than themselves.

This is surprising if God does not exist.

If belief in God were made up, we would expect it to appear in only a few places.

But it appears almost everywhere.

Why?

Because humans are not just physical beings.

We have thoughts.
We have emotions.
We ask deep questions.

We wonder why we exist.
We wonder what happens after death.
We wonder if life has purpose.

These questions live inside every human heart.

The Bible says God placed eternity in our hearts.

That means we were made to look beyond this world.

Just like hunger points to food and thirst points to water, our desire for God points to something real.

We long for meaning because meaning exists.

We long for love because love is real.

We long for God because God made us to know Him.

This does not mean every belief about God is correct.

But it does mean belief itself is not an accident.

It is part of who we are.

When Bible Explorers feel a sense of wonder or longing, it is not a mistake.

It is a sign.

A sign that we were made for more than just this life.

God created us not only to live, but to seek Him.

That is why belief in God appears again and again throughout history.

Our hearts are searching.

And God is the one they are searching for.

Think About It

• Why do you think people everywhere believe in God?

• What questions about life do you sometimes wonder about?

• How does longing for meaning point beyond this world?

• What does it tell you about God that He made us to seek Him?

• How can wondering about God help us grow closer to Him?
