You can read it yourself, follow along, or just listen.
“And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.”
Luke 24:2
After Jesus died, His body was placed in a tomb.
The tomb was carved out of rock.
A very large stone was rolled in front of the entrance.
Roman guards were posted nearby.
The tomb was sealed.
Everything was done to make sure no one could take the body.

Jesus’ followers were afraid.
They were not planning anything.
They were hiding.
Three days later, something unexpected happened.
When the women came to the tomb early in the morning, the stone was moved.
The tomb was open.
And Jesus’ body was gone.
Bible Explorers stop and ask an important question.
What happened to the tomb?
If someone had taken the body, there would have been signs of a struggle.
But there were none.
If the disciples had stolen the body, they would have had to fight trained Roman guards.
That makes no sense.
They were frightened and unarmed.

If the authorities had taken the body, they could have shown it later.
That would have stopped the resurrection story immediately.
But they never did.
The tomb was empty.
Everyone agreed on that.
Even Jesus’ enemies admitted it.
They did not say the body was still there.
They tried to explain why it was gone.
The empty tomb is important because it shows something happened.
Not a feeling.
Not a dream.
Not a story.
A real tomb was empty in a real city where people could check.
If Jesus’ body were still inside, no one would have believed He rose.
The message of Easter began in the very place it could have been proven false.
And yet it spread.
Because the tomb was empty.
That does not explain everything yet.
But it tells us something amazing.
Death did not have the final word.

Think About It
• Why would an empty tomb matter so much?
• Why couldn’t the disciples easily steal the body?
• What do you think people felt when they saw the tomb was empty?
• Why do you think God allowed the tomb to be found this way?
• What questions would you have asked if you were there?
