Who Saw Jesus Alive Again?

“He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.”
1 Corinthians 15:5

The tomb was empty.

But an empty tomb alone does not tell the whole story.

Bible Explorers stop and ask an important question.

Who actually saw Jesus alive again?

The answer is surprising.

Many people did.

Jesus did not appear to just one person.

He appeared to many people at different times and in different places.

He appeared to Mary Magdalene near the tomb.

He appeared to the disciples in a locked room.

He walked and talked with two followers on the road.

He ate food with them.

He showed them His hands and feet.

These were not quick moments.

Jesus spent time with them.

He spoke with them.

They were not imagining things.

They were awake and alert.

The disciples were not expecting the resurrection.

In fact, they did not believe it at first.

Some were confused.

Some doubted.

Thomas even said he would not believe unless he saw Jesus himself.

When Jesus appeared to him, Thomas believed.

The Bible also tells us that Jesus appeared to more than five hundred people at one time.

That means large groups claimed to see Him alive.

This is important.

People can be mistaken alone.

But large groups do not all imagine the same thing at the same time.

The witnesses told others what they saw.

They did not hide.

They spoke publicly.

Many of these eyewitnesses were still alive when the story spread.

People could ask them questions.

They could check the facts.

The resurrection was not a secret story told long afterward.

It was announced while witnesses were still living.

The people who saw Jesus were not trying to gain power or money.

They were often rejected and persecuted.

Yet they continued to say the same thing.

Jesus is alive.

Something changed them.

They were no longer afraid.

They were confident.

They were certain.

Because they had seen Him.

Think About It

• Why is it important that many people saw Jesus alive?

• Why do you think the disciples doubted at first?

• How does seeing Jesus change the way they acted?

• Why would eyewitnesses matter when people ask questions?

• What do you think you would have felt if you saw Jesus alive?
